Description
What is Microblading Ⓜ?
Microblading is a manual permanent make-up technique. Pigment is implanted into the upper layer of the skin with a fine hand blade, one stroke at a time, and each stroke imitates a single eyebrow hair. Done well, the finished brow reads as your own rather than as make-up — which is why it remains the most requested technique for anyone who wants a hyper-realistic result.
At Eyebrow Institution every brow begins with mapping. We measure your face, agree the shape and the pigment shade with you, and draw the outline before a single stroke is made. Nothing is implanted until you have approved it in the mirror.
Who it is for
- Normal to dry skin — this is where the technique performs best
- Sparse, thin or uneven eyebrows
- Gaps left by over-plucking, scarring or alopecia
- Anyone who fills their brows in with a pencil every morning
When we recommend something else
Microblading is not recommended for oily, sensitive or mature skin. On those skin types the fine strokes tend to blur and the pigment can fade unevenly. If that is your skin, we will steer you towards Powder Ⓜ brows or Cashmere Ⓜ brows instead — and we will tell you so at consultation rather than after the fact.
Before your appointment
- No alcohol, coffee or energy drinks for 24 hours — they thin the blood and increase bleeding
- Avoid aspirin and blood thinners unless they are prescribed, and tell us if you take them
- No sunbathing, solarium or chemical peels for two weeks beforehand
- Do not pluck, wax or tint the brows for at least a week — we need the natural hair to map the shape
How the appointment works
Allow two to three hours. Consultation and mapping come first, then a topical numbing cream, then the strokes themselves. A complimentary touch-up after four to six weeks is part of the treatment — that is where the shape is perfected and any strokes that healed lighter are rebuilt. The result is not finished until that second visit, and that is by design.
Healing and aftercare
For the first week your brows look darker and sharper than the final result. This settles as the skin regenerates, and a light flaking phase around days five to ten is normal. How closely you follow aftercare influences the final result more than most clients expect.
- Keep the area dry for seven days — no swimming, sauna or steam
- Do not pick or scratch the flaking skin
- Apply the aftercare balm we give you thinly, and only as instructed
- No make-up on the brows and no sun exposure until fully healed
How long it lasts
Microblading typically holds for twelve to eighteen months before it needs refreshing. Skin type, sun exposure, skincare acids and how oily your skin runs all shorten or extend that. A refresh is always quicker and gentler than starting again.
