Training & Career

Permanent make-up looks like an accessible career from the outside: short training, high treatment prices, flexible hours. The reality is a licensed skill performed on someone’s face, and the training route that works reflects that.

What a serious course covers

  • Skin anatomy — the layers you are working in and what happens at each depth.
  • Hygiene and safety — cross-contamination control, sharps handling, contraindications.
  • Colour theory — undertones, pigment bases and how healed colour shifts.
  • Mapping and design — symmetry, proportion and face shape.
  • Machine control — depth, speed, saturation, needle configurations.
  • Practical work — latex, then supervised live models.
  • Aftercare and client management — consultation, consent, follow-up.
  • Business basics — pricing, portfolio, local marketing.

A course that skips colour theory or hygiene to get you to the “fun part” faster is not preparing you to work.

How long it takes

Reaching competence in one brow technique typically takes several weeks of study plus supervised practice — not a single weekend. Confidence across skin types usually arrives somewhere around your fiftieth client, which is why ongoing mentorship matters more than the certificate date.

What certification actually means

A certificate documents completed training with a named educator. It is not a licence in itself — local requirements for registration, insurance and premises vary by country, and you must check what applies where you intend to work. What a respected certificate does give you is credibility with clients and access to further advanced training.

Choosing an academy

Look at the educator’s own healed work, not just their students’ fresh photos. Ask what support exists after the course ends. Ask how many models you will work on. An academy that answers those three questions clearly is one worth your money.

Our training runs from foundations through advanced technique, with instructor feedback throughout. The Cashmere M Brows Essentials Course is the usual starting point for artists beginning their career.
