Both are brow techniques, both are in demand, but they behave very differently on the skin \u2014 and choosing the wrong one for your first client can cost you a result you cannot fix quickly.<\/p>\n
Microblading<\/strong> is a manual technique. A handheld tool with fine blades deposits pigment in short strokes that imitate individual brow hairs. Done well, the result is hyper-realistic and almost invisible as makeup.<\/p>\n Powder brows<\/strong>, sometimes called ombre brows, are created with a digital machine. Thousands of tiny pigment dots build a soft gradient \u2014 lighter at the front of the brow, deeper toward the tail. The healed result reads like a softly filled-in brow rather than individual hairs.<\/p>\n This is the part beginners underestimate. Microblading strokes need skin that will hold a crisp line. On dry to normal skin, strokes heal sharp and defined. On oily skin, or skin with large pores, the same strokes spread as they heal and can blur into a soft shadow within months.<\/p>\n Powder brows are far more forgiving. Because the technique is built from shading rather than lines, oily and mature skin heal predictably. For most artists this makes powder brows the safer technique to offer across a broad client base.<\/p>\n Microblading typically holds its definition for around 12 to 18 months before it needs refreshing. Powder brows commonly last 2 to 3 years, fading softly rather than patchily. Clients who dislike frequent appointments usually prefer powder.<\/p>\n If you are building a career rather than adding one service, start with a machine technique. Machine work teaches you depth control, pigment saturation and how skin responds \u2014 the fundamentals that make every later technique easier.
